Gallery 2006
Costa Mesa, CA – July 29th, 2006 – This month Subject Matter Gallery & Generica Creative Collective is honored to present “Grassroots Growing In Concrete”. Generica, coined from “Generic America”, is an art based clothing project created to identify and form a community that is interested in making a conscious effort to affect change in our increasingly homogenized society. Generica is breaking away from the suburban strip malls, chain stores, prefabricated housing and the one-size-fits-all formula templates taking over today’s films, television, literature and music.

With a genuine appreciation for fine art and the artists who create them, Generica aims to make art readily available to everyone with a wide variety of artists and projects, through the “Creative Collective”, in the hope of fostering a realization of the importance of fine art.

Channeling Generica’s philosophies, “Grassroots Growing in Concrete” will showcase artists Aaron Horkey, Aye Jay!, Tom Jackson and Kevin Boettcher. With Horkey’s eye splitting mix of colors, Aye Jay!’s raw sketches and drawings, Jackson’s thought-provoking and captivating themes and Boettcher’s mix of contemporary modern and olden past, “Grassroots Growing in Concrete” will lay stage for an exploration into 4 very distinct artists’ works.

The future of Generica shines bright with a multitude of exciting projects, clothing releases every season, an expansion in the Creative Collective group along with added group shows; featuring amazing artists with the aesthetics, quality and detail for art that embodies Generica.

It’s time to break away from the cookie-cutter, mundane of today and explore what “Grassroots Growing in Concrete” and Generica have for you.
